Is an Independent Baptist Church? How
to Become a Member of the Church |
Liberty Baptist Church of
Stockbridge, Georgia, was founded in August 1977 as the first independent
Baptist church in Stockbridge. The founders numbered seven families with a
total of 22 people. Immediately, Glenn W. Anderson was called to plant and
pastor the church. Growth was immediate with, over 100 present within the
first six months and five acres of property bought on Highway 138. For the
first four months, services were held in the home of Mrs. Lucile K. O'Neal,
who was also the first church bookkeeper. In the fall of 1981, Liberty
moved to its present location at the corner of Highway 42 and Valley Hill
Road, where the complex totals 36 acres. In addition to the regular functions
and ministries of a Baptist church, the bus ministry and soul winning have
always been viable ministries that have seen hundreds saved. In 1991, the church founded
Atlanta Baptist College, which is chartered by the State of Georgia. The
college has night classes and caters to both married and unmarried students.
The college grants degrees only in theology and Bible. To date, Liberty has over 600
members and an extensive missions program, with ten missionaries being called
out of the church family. At any one time the church supports approximately
100 missionary families and projects. Through 2007, Liberty has given over
$3,200,000 to missions in these 30 years. The church continues to be a
stalwart for fundamentalism, standing for Biblical inerrancy using only the
King James Version, separation including dress and conservatism including
music. |
